Lovely fine day. Father went to Waikanae sale + bought :- 143 Corduke's top lambs 8/1; 198 Elder's Riki[orangi] cull lambs 6/5. The other four of us cut, split, carted 6 big loads of rata firewood from Front Bush. Laing started

ploughing CK p[addock] for a crop of soft turnips. Took a photo of my two dogs at their kennels, the little pup, Togo II + Scott. Today we read that the Russians have recovered from their recent retreat into Poland, the recapture by them of the town of Prasnysz [sic Przasnysz] + the retreat + in some places disorderly rout of the Germans. The Franco-British warships have penetrated further into the Dardanelles + have silenced some Turkish forts. Panic in Constantinople.
