Dull + showery. Harvest Sunday - Maud + I went to church in morning. After dinner we decided to ride up to North Block as it would be our only chance. So we set out on Kitty + Fanny. Took a photo (1) of Maud on the Koputaroa Stream bridge in Queen St. looking up the road to front 42 + our future homestead site. On arrival we took a torch + Maud set fire to the sawdust heap + I took a photo (2) of her doing so. After tea + cakes in whare we took a walk round to see some of my some of my [sic] improvements. At the tea Maud said "The first meal in their own home" + so it was in a way. We tried another experiment of a similar nature + enjoyed it immensely. The sawdust did not burn very well on acc[ount] of the dull weather. Maud thought the block looked less wild than when she visited it last easter so it is evidently breaking in a bit. Left at 6.40 pm + rode home in less than an hour. Turned in early, tired but happy.
