Overview
Mon. Feb. 22.
The new boy, D Baylis, did not arrive so Andy + I rode up to North Block to erect race + gate in sheep-yards ready for drafting out lmbs + cull ewes for next sale. A day of minor troubles:- the log I had reckoned on for posts proved hollow + useless: the post-holes were full of boulders + rata roots: etc etc. However we got in all the posts (7) + boarded up one side of the race - Andy left at 4.15 + self at 6.20. Home in 25 mins from front gate to front gate - a record. In the evening Maud, Clare + I drove down to Rev. Abbey's for the evening + spent a very pleasant time - Mr Abbey showed us his photos + geological specimens. On return home Maud helped me take out the horses - Father also came out to give a hand + then retired saying "I'll leave you at it": "A very good idea - that thing up there" said Maud, pointing to something on the roof of the trap-shed. I thought it a most appropriate remark. Maud looking very sweet this evening attired in her Paisley bordered cream dress, one of my

favourites, + her eyes were so blue + sparkley. Such a dream girl.
