Overview
Leslie Adkin continues to work on his father's farm Cheslyn Rise, near Levin. He also holds the lease on a separate property called the North Block, and he spends much of his time working there.
This month Leslie completes his half-yearly report for Dalgety & Co., his stock and station agency, and concludes that the North Block's prospects are 'promising.' He notes that the carrying capacity is steadily increasing, and that the stock are in good condition.
Other farming activities this month include fencing, laying pipe-drains, clearing and levelling land, mustering, drafting, shepherding, feeding out, and attending stock sales. Leslie works with his father William and their farm labourers Andy and Len.
In his spare time, Leslie enjoys reading and taking photographs. Having recently applied for a loan in order to construct a new house, he also spends his evenings planning the layout and furnishings of his future home. He corresponds frequently with his fiancee Maud Herd, who lives with her family in Hastings, and she sends ideas and house plans as well.
Leslie turns 27 on the 26th of this month, but with so much work to do on the farm he does not seem to have celebrated the occasion.
