Overview
Leslie Adkin continues to work on his father's farm Cheslyn Rise, near Levin. He is also the manager of a separate property called the North Block, and he spends much of his time there. This month he reports to Dalgety & Co., his stock and station agency, on the farm's progress, noting his stock numbers and the condition of the animals, the area of bush felled, and the state of the fences.
Other farming activities this month include fencing, cutting tracks, pulling foxgloves, clearing and firing land, mustering and drafting, and attending stock sales. Leslie works with his father William, his brothers Gil (Gilbert) and Clif (Clifford), and their farm labourer Andy. Contract workers assist with hay-making, scrubbing, and shearing.
In his spare time Leslie enjoys reading novels and taking photographs. He also corresponds regularly with his fiancee Maud Herd, who lives with her family in Hastings. Towards the end of the month Maud arrives in Levin to stay with friends, and the couple are able to renew their acquaintance.
