Gil, Anstice + I rode up to North Block to cut east line of patch of bush on top of hill. Measured another 2 1/2 ch[ai]ns (making the north boundary of bush 2 1/2 chns) + with compass struck into bush with a bearing of 205°. This line proved a great success, running along centre of ridge for a long way. A long way along we crossed a couple of shallow stream hollows running east + a little further got slightly off crest of ridge a little way down east slope but missing the heads of gullies. Here the ridge has a narrow crest but is fairly rounded. We saw some splendid totaras, rimus + rats – also lots of young specimens of same. We
