Mrs. Herd most kindly took charge of Nancy for the day while Maud + I went to Napier. Left by 9.30am train. Walked through town to beach + sat there awhile. Then walked to the Breakwater Harbour taking a photo (¼ pl[ate]) (1) of Napier soldiers' club opposite Municipal Baths on the way. Photo (2) of quarrying operations on the upper part of the huge cliff of Ahuriri Bluff, the workmen being held by ropes hung over the top of the cliff. Walked to end of breakwater + then back to town. Photo (3) of the Anglican Cathedral. Lunch at Kia Ora rooms. Then visited Botanical Gardens. Senecio Greyii [sic] makes a fine border plant. Maud took a photo (4) of central lawn with self on a path. Took a bus from the Hospital into town. Bought Maud an ornamental plate for the dining-room shelf. 5.08 pm train back to Hastings. In evening took Maud, Gertie + Olive

to "pictures" at Everybody's Theatre. Good programme, star film "Happiness".
