Overview
Tues. Mar 6.
Arranged with Father the following exchange 100 of his 2 tooth ewes @ 32/6 + 240 of my lambs at 17/. Drove 30 fat ewes (Father's) to Levin sale + sold at 33/. With Messrs Cottle + Burk, I arranged with Mr BR Gardiner, Town Clerk, to have the high-pressure water laid on to Woodside, tapping Gimbletts 11/2" pipe + continuing same to top of Queen St. + then using a 3/4" pipe to Woodside. I to bear 1/3 of cost of 11/2" pipe (about £14) + whole of cost of 3/4" pipe (about £22). Pipe trench to be dug by self + the others + Channings, the Borough overseer, to join up the pipes. Later in day interviewed Messrs Stewart + Gimblett, both of whom doubted if the available supply of the 11/2" pipe which would be supplying six houses would be sufficient especially if several people were using water simultaneously. It may suit be better to tap Father's pipe on my own or in conjunction with the Borough to supply the bush reserve opposite.
