Rode up to Sonoma - mustered straggler ewes + lambs on top + 100 paddocks to Mill p[addock] + from Leighton p. to Mill p. finishing by midday. Home to dinner. In pm Channings the Borough overseer + Messrs Cottle, Burk + I inspected proposed water pipe line + found Gimblett's pipe to be only 11/2 inch so I withdrew from Cottle + Burk's scheme + arranged to go in with Levin Borough + tap Father's 2" pipe with a 3/4" pipe to supply the Waiopehu Reserve + my house - 9 chains from Father's pipe to Reserve gate + another 13 chains to my house - I to pay difference between 1/2" + 3/4" pipe to Reserve + all cost rest of distance - total about £22
