Overview
Sun. Dec. 19.
Made arrangements to go in a motor-bus up to the North Egmont Mountain-house but to our very great disappointment some of the party failed us at the last moment + the driver would not go without a full load. So later in morning we again walked to the top of Marsland Hill

+ sat for some time admiring the wide view which to-day was very good owing to clearer atmosphere. Photo (15,16) panorama of New Plymouth from M. Hill, Photo (17) of Maud on old cannon, M[arshland] Hill, Pukekura Park beyond, + one (18) of St Marys Church showing people coming out from morning service. From M. Hill one can see the hospital, prison. etc, + on clear day a grand view of Mt. Egmont. In afternoon again went out to the Harbour in bus + went in for a dip - it was very nice as the sun was so hot. Photo (19) Maud in bathing costume, (20) self ditto. After a swim, we rolled in the hot sand, then bathed again + went for a lovely run along the beach + back, before drying + dressing. We lay on the beach for a long while under the shade of her parasol which afforded excellent protection from the gaze of the inquisitive. Afternoon tea, then walked back to town along the beach, taking Photo (21) of the sun setting behind Paritutu + shining on the waves in the foreground, then by way of the lupin bordered path to Kawaroa Park. The top of Egmont showed out clear above lowlying clouds. Got back late for tea + at last moment rushed off to find Methodist Church. Discovered a Presbyterian one + went in - a very good sermon

+ other things of interest. After the service we walked down beside the roaring surf in the divine moonlight + were exquisitely happy.
