Sat. Sept. 11.
Walked up to 100 acre p[addock] fence (east) + went on splitting posts. At 9.30 Andy arrived + we sawed up the remaining rimu logs on line, getting a couple of lengths for battens out of one. Mist + heavy rain at midday. Cut a couple lengths of hinau for posts on lower Ravine Spur. Before Andy left we

sawed off a length of a hollow hinau log for crossing over stream just south of Main Ravine. Spent evening straining 4 extra wires (thin) round the outer fence of sheep-yards to make it lamb-proof for dicking. Re-read "The Virginian".
