Sat. June. 5.
Maud + I caught the 9.30 train to Napier - walked out to the Breakwater + sat there for a couple of hours enjoying ourselves thoroughly. She took a photo (2) of me wearing her furs + I one (3) of her perched on the concrete blocks also, one (4) of the sun on the sea + a steamer going past, Maud on breakwater in foreground. Went back to town + had dinner at the

"Trocadero". Then took a tram out to Port Ahuriri + crossed the long bridge to West Shore where we explored about along the shore. The Lagoon was beautifully calm though the tide was running out swiftly, + there were lovely reflections - we stood on the bridge for some time talking + admiring the panorama. Returned to town by tram, found we had missed the 4 o'clock train so had tea at the "Kia Ora" Tea Rooms where there was a fine orchestra + then caught the 5.8 train. Spent another happy evening in the drawing-room.
