Up at 6 am - another fine hot day. Shepherded Mill p[addock] + counted the 23 y[ea]rling steers + 6 of 7 rams (one in Leighton p.). Shepherded Leighton p.- found one ewe dead, cast - fired big logs on spurs + very foolishly one near filled bush - tried to put it out but failed - hope it won't fire the bush. Grass very short in this paddock. Found 5 of the £2.4.0 steers on 1st burn. After dinner shepherded Top + 100 ac[re] paddocks - more grass there + sheep looking well - 8 steers missing (1 big, 3 £2.4.0 lot + 4 £3.7.0 lot). Pulled foxgloves on hills while shepherding, also on Stuckey's side, Mill p. Home for tea.
