Overview
Thurs. Oct. 8.
Another scorching day. Dick + I went up to East Low Hill, cut + split + put on the last 35 battens on 100 ac[re] p[addock] fence, thus completing it from foot Main Spur to Ohau R[iver]. Started clearing rest of fence-line by firing big rata log. Returned to whare for dinner. Found the sick steer just dead so took off skin. Father came up later - mustered the 33 steers - Mr Narby, who bought Mr Styles farm, looked at steers but did not purchase - drafted out 15 best steers (one other on "Cheslyn Rise") + took them home - tough time getting them out of front gate of N[orth] Bl[oc]k on acc[ount] of them breaking an adjacent

patch of bush. Put them in 10 1/2 ac. p. with some hay for the night. Drove down to concert in aid of Methodist Church in evening - wax-works (self as Kaiser), glee "Dame Durden" one of the best items, recitations by Bryon + Miss P. Brown - very good programme + large audience.
