Dull day with occasional sunshine. Rode up to Ohau Summit + found the last of the missing steers en route. Split 12 posts out of the 2nd length of hinau up there + cut off 3rd but it proved to be rotten. Bunged up maul so went into the bush + felled + cut up the live hinau tree we found some time ago. Also felled a honeysuckle on the edge of bush for battens as rimu is not very plentiful. Also dropped a big puketia stump overhanging fence line. Stopped work at 4.45 pm + rode down to whare, driving the steer well down the hill, but not into the mill p[addock]. Grange the bushman, is now camping in the chaff room of the big stable + has commenced
