Overview
Friday May 1st
Very dull day - Anstice + I rode up to North Block - picked up tools at whare + rode up to Ohau Summit to re-commence erecting east boundary fence. Recut the fern etc which has grown up round the posts on the long slope down to the Ohau River + markets posts ready for putting on the barb wires. Found a couple of my steers in the bush on the terrace alongside the Ohau but worked round behind + drove them out. The cattle have been using the fence line as a track so there [page break] are probably others in the bush. A heavy shower of rain at 10.45 wet the scrub + so we were very damp for rest of day. We found a few posts left over from those down the slope + carried them up hill for the fence on the summit - this was a killing job. We then put in the [illegible] as the deviation from the old boundary line of the North Block, + put stays on the four corner posts on the upper part of slope down to the Ohau. Also carried down four coils of barb for the second strain on the slope + ran out one barb wire in the first (uppermost) strain. Left at 4.pm. Heavy shower after return home. Received by post from darling Maud a very pretty "hold all" for my whare up river. Also a letter, cut into seven parts, a part in each pocket of the "hold all."
