Overview
Tues. Apr. 14.
Showery dull day. Maud appeared look-ing awfully pretty as usual + as fresh as a daisy. We mustered the 39 £5 steers + branded them for taking up river. After dinner I had a loverly half hour's conversation with my beloved on the back verandah, + then Clif + Anstice [my best guess?] drove the cattle up to the South Block while Father + I rode forward + sowed the 'burn' from the "West Low Hill" to the saddle as foot of "Main Spur" + the one as foot of “Skyline Spur.” After tea I tried to have a little time with Maud in the drawing room + was showing her some books when mother politely got Clifford to turn off the gas as the meter + put an end to our enjoyment. It seems pretty hard that after a day’s work I can’t have a little time with the girl I’m engaged to.
