Overview
Sun. Mar. 1
Maud and I drove with the others to church. Mrs Harrison-Lee Cowie conducted the service. At the church door, we met Lawrie + Aunt Nell and I proudly introduced Maud as my fiancee. We were invited to tea + walked up at about 3 in the afternoon. The house is, of course, now completed + is a very fine building both inside + out. The style is very modern - tiled roof, stucco walls + inside, panelling and heavy beams of dark timber supporting ceilings, doorways, etc. Mrs Inns, Aunt Nell's sister, was staying with them. Owen now walks about + talks. He, Laurie + I went round the garden to see the native + other shrubs + plants. After tea an interesting incident occurred. Maud, Aunt Nell + Mrs Inns were sitting on the front verandah

+ Lawrie and I were standing about watching Owen frolic. The latter suddenly wanted to kiss his mother but she stopped him + told him to kiss whoever he liked. He solemnly looked at each of the ladies in turn + then went to Maud + kissed her amid applause. I reckon he showed [word underlined] great [underlining finishes] discrimination + my opinion of him went up several degrees. Aunt Nell + Mrs Inns went to evening service. A very hot day, but chilly night. Maud + I spent a little time in the drawing-room on return home.
