Very steady rain all night + till about 9am this morning. Mother drove me to station to catch Napier Mail train which left at 11.56 am. Had Mr. Howard Andrew's company as far as Palmerston + read Mr. Massey's Licensing Bill with clause for reduction of handicap from the 3/5ths majority to the 45% on National Prohibition question. Counter lunch at Palmerston N[orth] + Waipukurau. Hastings

at last. Maud at station to meet me - she looked charming in a cream dress with broad blue facings. John was waiting with trap - drove down to home at [Grays?] Road + found family well. Spent most of evening with Maud in garden + drawing-room.
