Overview
Tues. Feb. 24.
Put off holiday trip to Hastings to attend sale at Otaki - wired regrets to Maud.
Father + I went down by 8.40 am train. Walked to yards + inspected sheep, mouthing several lots of breeding ewes. Rain came on about 10.30 + lasted all day. Walked down to the Jubilee Hotel for dinner. The sale commenced at 1.pm. A line of ewes 2-4-6 tooths from Otaki Gorge which would have suited me fetched 16/9. Father bid to 16/5. All breeding ewes were too high. Father bought 125 aged ewes for fattening at 10/4. After sale we met Mr. Comford who on hearing we required breeding ewes, offered to rail to us from his station at Maowhango near Taihape at line of 210 Romney ewes, mostly 4-tooths + a few 6-tooths at 16/3 (this includes 9d per head railage). He is culling these from his flock because their wool is a trifle too coarse, but they are good sized, healthy sheep. If on seeing

them we do not like them, we can refuse to purchase. We accepted offer on these terms. The deluge of rain continuing we walked to station to wait for the train. At 4.45 pm Mr. Kingdon came along with his car, picked us up + took us not only to Levin but right to our own gate - the car is a two seater so I sat on step. Home at 5.40pm. Changed + had tea + felt very pleased with day's work. And HASTINGS to-morrow.
