Overview
Thurs. Feb. 26.
Strong cold southerly wind sprang up in night + lasted all day. Maud + I spent morning at home + I made her a formal proposal to marry me some day - the darling accepted me, but on putting on the ring we found it to be a size too large - however she was very pleased with the design - three rubies + the central stone encircled by eight diamonds - and so I had to post it back to Wgton [Wellington] to be altered to the right size. After dinner we walked down to the Post Office + then visited Cornwall Park. This contains grounds for various games, such as cricket, tennis etc. At the main entrance there is a

broad facing of purple down the front, a blue opera cloak + a charming lace fascinator. Paul Dufault the celebrated tenor was supported by the violinist, Ernest Joy + the soprano, Miss Pauline Bindley, all performers of exceptional merit. Paul Dufault's most interesting items were a French song (remarkable pianoforte accompaniment), ["Sylvelin"?] (most charming accompaniment) + "How's My Boy." Ernest Joy excelled in "Butterflies". Another good item was the duet "Trip, Trip, Trip" by Paul Dufault + Miss Pauline Bindley. Maud + I brought an enjoyable evening to an enjoyable end in the drawing room on return home. "Eaters of honey, honey-sweet of song."
