Tues. Jan. 6
Father, Jim, Anstice, Gil, Clif + I rode up to the North Block to muster the 120 "UR" ewes + lambs + the 301 Waikanae hoggarts [sic] for shearing. Took it easy so did not get home til after 6pm. Uncle Percy + young Norry who are staying with Uncle Bert came over in evening. Norry is an awfully tricky kid, very old-fashioned + smart, only 6 3/4 years old. I asked him if he could remember living in India + he said "Yes, but I only know a few words of the language". He was asked how his little br[othe]er Harry (3 1/2 years) was. "All right, he's mad on boy scouts." Someone asked if his little baby sister could talk yet. "Good Lord, yes," he replied with vigour. Uncle Percy entertained us with yarns about India etc + cracked innumerable jokes in his usual gay way. Uncle Bert came over later.
