Overview
Mon. Jan. 5.
Up at 4am. Jim, Anstice, Gil, Clif + I rode up to South Block + mustered 228 ewes (including a few hoggarts [sic] etc from North Bl[oc]k). Back to Ohau ford at 8am - crossed the sheep in 1/4 hour the river being very low. Home at 11am. After dinner we got in the Johnson-Roland - S[outh] Farm - cull hoggarts [sic] also the "turnip" hoggarts [sic] (= part of Waikanae lot) + drafted + marked as follows :- 150 big + forward wethers, red on rump for immediate sale; 329 smaller wethers + the ewe hoggarts [sic] for UR. At 4pm we took the 329 lot up to the South Block getting there at 6pm. On way home called in at McKenzie's woolshed + got 14 of our UR sheep left there by Mr Kay. Home at 7pm - a 15 hour day. In evening developed the rest of the photos 12 taken in Hastings at Xmas - to my great joy they were all good.
