Overview
Leslie Adkin continues to work on his father’s property Cheslyn Rise, near Levin. Shearing occupies much of his time this month, although he is also busy making and carting hay, clearing land, and selling stock. Towards the end of the month Leslie and his father William attend a clearing sale at Waikanae. A number of casual labourers help with the shearing and hay-making, and Leslie also works with two full-time labourers, Jim and Anstice, his brothers Gil (Gilbert) and Clif (Clifford), and his father.
With so much work to do on the farm Leslie has limited leisure time this month, although he is able to develop some of the photographs he took during his trip to Hastings in December. The family enjoy a brief visit by Leslie’s Uncle Percy and his cousin Norry.
On the 27th Leslie attends an A & P (Agricultural and Pastoral) show at Levin. He sees a number of acquaintances and enjoys the side-shows, but admits to feeling ‘a bit lost’ without his sweetheart Maud.
