Shepherded all ewes. Got afternoon off to go for a ride to Moutere Hill with Maud. We left Bruce Road at 1.40pm – dull afternoon. Took (1) of Maud on Beach Road looking towards swamp + Maori pah: (2) of Maud at ford over Hokio Stream near McDonald’s house: (3) the track to Moutere showing Hill + trig in background: (4) Maud + the dogs – Togo Scott + Pat on the steep upper slope of Moutere: (5) Maud + the horses at the Trig. (6) Maud on Judy under the cabbage trees at the foot of Moutere: Maud also took a series of similar views. On the way back showed Maud the view of Horowhenua Lake + Hokio outlet near McDonald’s house. Back to Bruce Rd at 5.10pm. Stayed to tea + spent most delightful + precious time with my darling – + drew her a sketch plan of the North Block. Rain commenced at 8pm + so had a wet ride home – the day was worth it.
