Overview
Leslie Adkin continues to work on his father’s property Cheslyn Rise, near Levin. This month a new labourer named James Tregea arrives on the farm, which is also worked by Leslie’s brother Gil (Gilbert), his father William, and a labourer named Anstice. Farming activities include fencing, mustering, drafting, docking, dagging, clearing and benching land.
Leslie writes often of his ‘perfect darling’ Maud Herd, and he visits her at her parent’s home in Bruce Road, Levin. This month he has a conversation with Maud’s father William about the couple’s future, and explains that he does not wish to be officially engaged to Maud until his position ‘is more secured.’
Leslie enjoys a range of social activities, and this month he attends the inaugural concert of the YMCA Male Choir, a bulb show, and a home mission meeting. He also attends church regularly, and continues to take photographs of friends, family, local landmarks and activities.
