Overview
Leslie Adkin continues to work on his father's farm Cheslyn Rise, near Levin. He also holds the lease on two other properties, called the North Block and Rear 42, and spends much of his time working to clear and fence them. Other farming activities include sowing grass, pulling foxgloves, mustering, shepherding, docking, and attending stock sales. Leslie works with his father William, his brothers Gil (Gilbert) and Clifford, and their farm labourers Andy and Jack.
This month Leslie spends a long weekend in Hastings with his fiancee Maud Herd and her family. The couple enjoys picnicking at scenic spots in the area, and go to a movie at the Hastings picture theatre. After one particularly memorable day together, Leslie writes that he is struck 'almost dumb with admiration' for his beloved darling.
In his spare time, Leslie enjoys reading and taking photographs. He is also a regular church-goer, although after one of the services this month he reports that he got 'black looks from people who thought [he] ought to enlist.'
