Overview
Leslie Adkin continues to work on his father's farm Cheslyn Rise, near Levin. He also holds the lease on a separate property called the North Block, and spends much of his time working there. Farming activities this month include fencing, logging, firing fern and scrub, sowing grass, topdressing, shepherding, mustering, attending stock sales, and lambing. Leslie works with his father William and their farm labourers Andy and Len.
This month Leslie has an accident while working, giving himself a black eye and a cut forehead when he runs into a spike of timber. He narrowly avoids losing an eye.
On the 13th, Leslie travels to Hastings to spend time with his fiancee Maud Herd. The two discuss plans and furnishings for their future home, and make a number of social calls. They also visit a pastry cook to discuss their wedding cake. At the end of the visit, Leslie writes that both he and Maud are lucky - 'me to get such a splendid girl, + she to get a man no worse than I.'
In his spare time, Leslie enjoys reading and taking photographs. He is a regular church-goer, and keeps abreast of local and national news.
