Overview
Leslie Adkin continues to work on his father's farm Cheslyn Rise, near Levin. He is also the manager of a separate property called the North Block, and he spends much of his time there. Farming activities this month include fencing, cutting tracks, laying drains, mustering and drafting, crutching, and attending stock sales. Leslie works with his father William, his brother Gil (Gilbert), and their farm labourers Andy, Scott (Robert Scott), and S. Morgan.
In his spare time Leslie enjoys reading novels, and he is a regular church-goer. This month he attends two concerts in Levin, one in aid of the Belgian Fund and the other as part of the 'Queen Carnival' celebrations.
Leslie writes frequently of the war in Europe, and this month suggests that the time for him to enlist may be 'drawing near.' The first list of New Zealand casualties from the campaign at Gallipoli is received on the 5th, and Leslie notes that five men from Levin have been wounded.
