Overview
Leslie Adkin continues to work on his father’s property Cheslyn Rise, near Levin. Farming activities this month include fencing, drenching, crutching and moving stock onto winter feed. He also attends local stock auctions. Leslie often works on the farm with two labourers, Jim and Anstice. His father and younger brother Gil (Gilbert) also work on the farm.
This month, Leslie continues to court Maud Herd, whom he visits at her family’s home in Bruce Road, in Levin.
In his spare time Leslie reads novels, attends parties, concerts, and meetings, and visits friends to show them photographs he took while on holiday in February and March. A friend from Christchurch, Harry McCalman pays a brief visit. Leslie also worships regularly at church.
Members of the Adkin family including Leslie are involved in a campaign to reduce the majority needed to implement the prohibition of alcohol from 60% to 55%.
Winter weather sets in, with snow falling on the nearby Tararua Ranges.
