C Retter dipped 105 sheep before breakfast. Later we dipped 786 of Tompsitt’s sheep, young McLeavey + Campbell assisting. Mr Tompsitt came to watch operations + stayed to dinner. Very little water in dip towards end of day + had a hard job turning lambs on their backs – only 180 gal[lon]s in dip at finish. They left us 7 huge “double-decker” wethers + ewe for Father to buy at £1 per head if Mr McLeavey is agreeable. In evening Father, Clare + I drove down [to] social in Century Hall – farewell to Rev + Mrs. T F Jones after 5 years stay in Levin. Big

gathering – representatives of the other churches + town present – speeches + items – Clare recited + Maud played a violin solo – sat with Uncle Bert but saw Maud at supper-time. Refused invite to help her develop some photos – a terrible self sacrifice but thought it advisable after last Thursday evening. Mr + Mrs Jones received valuable presentations – a very pleasant + successful evening.
