Overview
Wed April 9
Father went to Wgtn for a few days. Jim + I worked at CK-Swamp p[addock] fence. In afternoon I rode up to North Block to see stock. Leighton’s end looked bare + I found it closely eaten by the 202 wethers – these appear to be in excellent order. Skeleton of a small steer in swamp just inside main entrance to Leighton’s paddock – a little further on a steer freshly dead – apparently cast – back downhill against at log + signs of a struggle. Foxglove very bad + promise

of a very heavy crop next year on high-level terrace + foot of spurs. Cut patch of Californian thistle found by Father a month ago – not now in flower. Rode up spurs + found the wethers well spread right up to bush. Six steers on high-level terrace + 11 more in mill paddock + put them in with other 6. Rode down to south p. of N[orth] Blk. + found 46 more steers = 22 not visible. Gil + Anstice returned home from S[outh] Block for the night.
