Alovely fine day. Took Nancy over to Cheslyn Rise + at 8.40 am Maud + I sent out in the gig to explore the country between Manakau + the Otaki Reserve. Reached Manakau rly [railway] stn [station] at 9.48 + set aneroid 97'. Junction of South Manakau Road + Main Rd at 10.1, 146' (corrected 142'), Drove along South Manakau Road mapping topography as I went. Junction of the two branches of road at 10.14, 230'

(233'). The floodplain of the present stream is surmounted by patches of older alluvium. We drove to the 1st corner behond the junction + then returned + continued along the branch road heading to the Waitohu Valley.
