Overview
Mon. July 22
Bitterly cold southerly still blowing. Rode up to Sonoma - snow again lying on my hilltop + a thin sprinkling on South Block. Again mustered Top p[addock] to find the missing steers + got 18, saw 3 + reduced missing to one. Put steers on Mill p. Worked at MakahikaClif fence - strainedbarb wire, carried out + stapled on 90 battens. At 3.50 pm snow started to fall heavily + very soon the ground was white. When I left about 4.30 the whole valley was under about an inch of snow, as was the plain right down to Woodside + beyond. A beautiful sight but no good to farmers.
