Went for a long walk to top of Arapaepae Range via Cheslyn Rise + HD's long spur to get altitudes especially of upper limit of snadstone. Woodside front gate, 9.6am 238', Koputaroa Bridge Queen St 9.8, 221', Cheslyn Rise front gate 9.11, 212'. Chelsyn Rise 9.16 (226') corrected 228', top edge terrace on bdy [boundary] fence sections 11 + 12, 9.30, (217') 225', top of edge of terrace at foot of spur 9.37 (250') 261'. Top end of spur 9.42 (370') 383', Pine plantation, limit of sandstone, 9.55 (512') 530'. Top of knob 10am, (549') 569'.

Middle of saddle 10.3, (539') 560'. Junction HD's north fence (about 8 chns [chains] east of last) 10.28, (1250') 1282'. Gateway Read-Becher's Bdy [Boundary], 10.45,(1184') 1223'. Summit range Becher-Cottle's Bdy 10.54 (1110') 1153'. Summit range Cottle-Burne's Bdy 11.2 (1190') 1237', Arapaepae No 1 11.4 (1210') 1258'. Lovely views of plain from various points. Met Mr Cottle on his hilltop + walked down with him. In evening Mrs Herd kept house + Maud + I had the pleasure of driving to church together.
