Overview
Sat. Apr. 20
We decided to entertain the Cheslyn Rise guests with a picnic up river. at 11.30 Maud, Nancy + I drove in gig, accompanied by Agnes, Clif + Viv on horseback, to the Black Hole. Boiled kettle + lunched. I took a 1/4 pl[ate] photo of the party at lunch. At 2.30 the others arrived in the car + Father on horseback + after a cup of tea we crossed the Makahika just below the Black Hole by means of improvised bridges + stepping stones + followed Kay's high terrace to my Ohau Flat. Rain came on + soaked the fern in Kay's so we all got damp. We all had a look at the Horse-shoe Bend + the others went on towards the Mill p[addock] while Maud, Father + I inspected the "cleft" cliff fence which I am at present erecting. Father was very pleased with the appearance of the Ohau Flat + the lambs thereon. The rain continued + we all got wet as we walked back to the car + horses via Mill p. + Gladstone Road. I carried Nancy
