Still a southerly breeze + drizzly rain, with fog on hilltops. Clif + I walked down town + up Boulcott St to Wgton [Wellington] Terrace + then along Salmanca Road to Kelberne [sic]Park. Then on to Hector Observatory, Kelberne tram power-house + Kiosk. After a look round deswcnded in cable train to the Quay. After a walk round town, got my 1/2 pl[ate] camera + took photos (7) interior Town Hall + (8) Town Hall + Central Fire Brigade Station from Jervois Quay. Returned to P[eople's] P[alace] but missed dinner as didn't feel need of it. In pm Clif went out alone + later I followed him, visited Library, Art Gallery + the New Theatre in Manners St + saw the film "Broadway Jones". Joined Clif at P.P. + in evening went to TownHall to the

rally for big effort for the Red Triangle (soldiers' trench comforts) fund. The Mayor, Mr Luke, in the chair + other speakers were Rt Hon. the premier, Sir Joseph Ward, Hon Ja[me]s Allan, Mr Hindmarsh MP + Mr Harold Beauchamp, chairman of B.N.Z. A film, "The Battle of Messines" was screened + there were vocal items by Mr Philip Newbury + Miss Amy Murphy of Fuller's Vaudeville. Finally seats in dress circle of Grand Opera House for "Look Who's Here" by Jack Waller Co (benefit performance) were auctioned + best seats went for £5 + £4 each. Supped at Godber's (a poor place) + then wnet for a walk via Cuba, Webb, Willis + Manners Streets before retiring. Sky still overcast, more rain threatening.
