Father + I attended the Pahautanui [sic] Cattle Fair. Clif motored us to the 8.45pm train. Took 1/4 pl[ate] camera + took snaps from train.(1) steep slopes of alluvium at foot of hills north of Waikanae (2) a flax swamp near Paraparaumu + (3) the coastline south of Paikakariki [sic].A dray met us at Paramata [sic] + we drove off heavily laden the 4 miles along the shore of Porirua Harbout to Pahautanui [sic].Numerous fishermen's houses week-end cribs + farmhouses are dotted along the shore or roadside. Had dinner at the hotel + went round the yards - most of the cattle were bad coloured.Took photos (4 + 5) of the sale yards.Each firm has its own yards + Loan + Mercantile sold first, then Dalgety's

+ lastly Abraham + Williams.Prices still very high + I did not buy.Father bought 30 3½-4 y[ea]r bullocks at £15.5.0.Drove back to Paramata [sic] on the dray + only just caught the last train home.
