Overview
Tues. June 19
Clare + I travelled down to W'gton [Wellington] by the 8.45am train to see Mother who is in a very critical [sic]. Sent Clare off to "Fern Hill" in a hansom + lunched in town before going up to see Mother. Found her on sofa in dining-room at "Fern Hill", where she has just been moved from the private hospital, looking terribly think + pale. My visit seemed to cause some improvement
[page break]
+ I left her dozing. Trammed over to "The People's Palace" + engaged a room. Had tea in town, a bathe at the "Palace" + wnet to His Majesty's Theatre in evening to see Walter Johson + company present the musical revue "The Railway Tangle", not bad fun, some of the musical numbers very good. Theatre packed in spite of good counter-attractions, but W'gton people appear to wallow in pleasure + luxury.
