Wind from east + threatening rain. Hung the front gate + fixed the adjacent fence ready for the pickets. Also went on erecting shed. In evening drove the new pony to Levin + it went very nicely. Howling gale from the east - Mr. Tress met us in town + told us that fires were going strong in the Matahika Valley, but that all my buildings were safe. A very wild night + very smoky.
