Dull showery day. Eight of us - Maud + I. Ralph + Winnie Wallis, Olive, Gerty, John + Hugh - caught 9 [am]

train to Napier to see Mardi Gras. Huge crowds so went up in an open truck. Procession spoiled by weather - lunched + then went for a taxi ride to Patane [sic - Petane] + Esk Valley. Visited Napier Public Library + took photo (18) of our party on Marine Parade. Returned home by 3.35 train. In evening Maud + I had a long family conversation with Mr. + Mrs. Herd.
