Overview
Thurs. Nov. 4.
Up at 5.30 - at 6.30 went up hill in rain, finished trimming posts on Middle Spur, then shepherded Leighton Spur, "1st" + "2nd burns" + Ohau Summit (east d[oun]d[ar]y fence intact) in search of the 15 steers (1 of Father's) running on hills to put with the 14 on Mill p[addock]. Found 12 (3 missing), making 26 on Mill p. Split 15 good posts out of a fine hinau log (2 lengths) on terrace at foot Trunk Spur. Heavy showers all day. After dinner went to catch old Maori + found he had got out via deep pool in Horseshoe Bend so walked down road hoping to get him at Kay's gate, it was open so had to tramp right down to Cheslyn Rise. Caught him

at the front gate + rode him back. Snigged both lots of posts down to flat + over river. Stopped work at 7 pm - tethered Maori in Ram p. Wet night. Very stiff, sore + tired.
