Roused out at 5 am by "Maori" breaking out of sheep-yards but got him just in time. Did not go back to bed. Sledged two strainers down from Middle Spur - found iron plate with chain through hole much better for this work than the sledge. Carried tools over to Ohau River fence + put up a barb wire block where the steers have been getting out round west end of Ohau fence. Found a 2-tooth ewe cast on Ohau Flat + saved her life. Walked up to 100 acre p[addock] east fence + put in the three remaining posts. Dinner at whare. Got together timber, strainers, etc. to cart down to front of rear 42, but had to leave strainers as

the load would have been too big. Left at 3.40 - home at 5.15 pm. A lovely sunny day.
