Tues. June. 22.
Walked up to fence via Narby's Spur, "1st burn" + hilltop in order to shepherd. Saw 15 of the 30 steers on "1st burn" which is now practically eaten out + breaking in wonderfully. On reaching job split and carried out 10 posts + put in 6, this makes another 2½ chains. Partly cleared line for another 1½ chains. The ram with broken leg on Mill p[addock] is still alive + may recover if he can get enough grass to keep going. Rode home for night. Received two thrilling letters from Maud.
