Overview
Wed. June. 16.
A perfect day - calm + sunny. The Queen Carnival got up by the Levin Patriotic Society was a great success. The procession left Levin Rwy [Railway] station at 11am + marched to the Recreation Ground - the procession was a great credit to Levin - pierrots, Darkeytown band, Indians, cowboys etc.etc. taking part. I wore my

Mephistopheles costume + Clif was a cowboy. After procession had reached grounds I changed into ordinary clothes. There were speeches by Wgton [Wellington] men + by local Maoris + some of the Wgton "Queens" were present. The principal events of the day were parting up with cash + getting other people to part up - also a mock Court + a Baby Show. About £400 is expected to be realized. Wet night.
