Scott + I rode up to North Block + went on with east bdy [boundary] fence alongside "1st burn". Cut the big rata log on line + moved it aside. Ran out the barb wires for about 11 chains + strained up about 7 chains. Scott left at 4.15 + I went on stapling up etc till 5.15. Home late + returned early. Father's horse "Dick" died to-day of inflamation of kidneys. The greatest crime of history. News of sinking of the Cunard liner, "Lusitania", 30,000 odd tons by torpedoes from a German pirate submarine. There were 2160 souls on board + the loss of life was enormous, viz. 1399.
