Overview
Wed Jan 27
Dull morning but fine warm afternoon. At 9.30 cycled down to Mrs. Lancaster's + after a delightful time with Maud (arranged by Amy, the dear girl) we drove down to Levin's 9th A+P Show. Mr. Lancaster did very well in Jersey dairy stock taking 3 firsts + 1 second prizes. Lunched on grandstand - a delicious repast provided by Mrs. L[ancaster] - we were quite a big party, Mr. + Mrs. L, Amy + Mr. Smith, five cousins + Maud + I. Took a 1/2 pl[ate] snapshot (1) of the group at lunch. At 1.45 the Rt. Hon W F Massey, Prime Minister officially opened the Show + made an interesting speech. Took a snapshot (2) of him and the crowd. Amy entered for the ladies driving competition taking Maud with her in Mr. Bevan's gig as "ballast". They might have come second but for the pony getting his ticker between his legs + causing him to shy. However they looked very nice + I took a photo (3) of them in the gig.

Went round side-shows, watched events from grandstand, had afternoon tea, introduced to Maud's Otaki friend Mrs. D'Ath + met her uncle Lieut[enant] Herd + altogether had a glorious time with my darling. Drove back to Hillcrest for tea + afterwards went to the pictures, walking home with beloved Softie as a grand finale to a most enjoyable day.
