Another dull lowering day. At 9.45 Andy + I rode up to North Block + pulled foxgloves on Ohau Flat, completing the job with exception of stragglers on all parts of the farm. On way up met Mr. Tress driving cattle to Levin sale + he complained about the fence which I am erecting between himself + my 1st burn, saying that as I have not put battens on his stock was getting through. So in afternoon Andy + I rode up to the fence + tried to cut some battens - the first log was so tough + stringy we only got 24 + the second proved rotten so we had a most futile + sickening afternoon. On acc[ount] of cattle getting thro' the fence will require re-straining. Pulled straggler fox-gloves on north side 1st burn + on Leighton's spur + cut patch of California thistles on Ohau Flat. Grass growing again + ewes + lambs looking fair: also cattle excepting the "Potty Red". Home at 7.10 pm. Father bought 112 very good 4-tooth wethers for 19/6 at Levin sale.
