Overview
Thurs. Decr. 10.
General Election day. Rode down to Levin at 11-am. Registered my vote for Mr. Field Nat[ional] Prohibition + No L[icense]. Took a seat at one of the tables at Public School gates and gave voters their numbers + checked the rolls. In the evening a big crowd mustered near the "Chronicle" office where a sheet for the returns had been fixed up. There was considerable excitement as the local candidates came in - Mr. Field polled 2965 votes and Mr. Robertson 2314, the former winning the seat by a majrity of 651. Later Mr. Robertson came up in a motor + briefly addressed us. When Mr. Field arrived he was carried shoulder high + there was great enthusiasm.

Other electoral returns came in - unfortunately mostly opposition + Labour victories it seemed. So we returned home feeling rather depressed at a possible defeat of Mr Massey + his Reform Party.
