Overview
Tues. Nov. 17.
A very bad day. Andy, Erny + I rode up to North Block to pull foxgloves in Leighton p[addock]. Did Trunk + Middle Spurs+ flats at foot + flat at foot of Crescent Spur. Found a dead ewe in lawyer in gully between Trunk + Middle Spurs. Spent dinner-time looking for missing big bullock but could not find him. Found anther dead ewe on Ohau Flat. Grass very short, worse than fortnight ago - ewes + lambs not doing well + some of the £3.7.0 steers on Ohau Flat going off. Found a new patch of Californian thistles on lower part of Trunk Spur. Huge number of foxgloves - a cheerful day. Grange started the scrubbing contract to-day. He is to do part of a strip (2 chains wide) alongside the felled bush on hilltop. Father's gang to do the next.

The price is to be £2 per ac[re] for the 6 acres to be done by Grange + I am to pay for half. On return home put hoggarts [sic] in woodshed for shearing to-morrow. Germans driven back from the Yser Canal line in Belgium - a great victory for the Alies [sic]. Vienna fortified.
